Adventure Atlanta

Each month, September through May, we have an adventure somewhere in Georgia. We have visited the CDC, Kennesaw Train Museum, had a ride on the Chattanooga Riverboat, just to name a few. We try to plan "Adventures" that will appeal to our members in many ways from sightseeing to dining, to history and area attractions. There are usually admission fees and the cost of lunch. We meet to carpool to our destination.

Afternoon with Friends

Afternoon with Friends meets on the second Thursday of the month at 2:00, typically at bakeries around Marietta and Smyrna. This is a small group of about 5 to 10 people. Eating dessert is not mandatory; a friendly attitude is.

Book Group

The group meets on the 4th Tuesday of the month at member's homes at 10:00 am. The discussion lasts about 1 hour and 30 minutes and is lead normally by the person who suggested the book originally. We pick the books for the year usually during our December meeting. This is also the time that we have our holiday brunch which has become a tradition that we all enjoy. Once every year we read a book that has been made into a movie. Then, during that month's meeting, we discuss the book, watch the movie and compare.  There is no cost associated with our group and no literary qualifications other than a love of books needed. Come and join us any time, be prepared for some lively but always friendly discussions and get to try some books you might never have picked up left to yourself!

Canasta, 5 Deck

We play on the first Monday of each month at members’ homes. 5 deck canasta is a card game played with 4 persons. We usually have two or three tables. This allows a newbie to learn the game quickly if they are not familiar with the game. There is no additional cost to this activity.

Chick Flicks
We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of every month…IF there is a movie available.
Chairperson will post all the info on the Newcomers Facebook page a few days beforehand.
Daytime Bunco

Bunco is a dice game that meets in a member's homes on the third Monday of the month. We begin with "coffee break" type food at 10 AM and play 3 games, usually finishing about 1 PM. We put a few dollars in the pot and give prizes for Most Bunco's; First, Second, and Third highest scores as well as the Lowest score. By the time a person unfamiliar with this game leaves, they are close to being "experts". It is an easy game to learn and is a good way for new members to interact with the existing members.

Evening Bunco

Bunco is scheduled for 7 p.m. on the 4th Saturday of each month and is hosted by club members in their homes or clubhouses.  Bunco is an easy dice game and lots of fun for all.  Bunco night is a great time to make new friends and to connect with old ones.  The game is 100% luck and no skills are required.  There is a $5.00 charge per person and all monies are returned as prize money.  Spouses, significant others, and singles are invited to attend.  The Hostess and Co-Hostess provide all paper goods, utensils, non-alcoholic beverages, and coffee.  BYOB.  Attendees are asked to bring hearty appetizers, salads or desserts.  We start the evening with refreshments and play two games and take a dessert and coffee break before we play the final game.  Attendance is on a first contact basis.  It is important that you contact the hostess as quickly as possible to get on the list.  It is expected that the members who participate on a regular basis also take a turn hosting at Bunco evening.   If you are unable to host in your own home you can make arrangements to possibly rent a clubhouse with your co-hostess.

Flying Solo

We have fun activities each month for members who are single.  We go out to eat, tour gardens, attend the theater, enjoy concerts, and participate in other fun events.  New members are always welcome.

Game Night

We meet the second Saturday night of the month at 7:00 p.m. at a member's home or clubhouse. We invite attendees to bring along a favorite group or party game. We play Canasta, Bridge, Mexican Train, Mah Jongg, Cribbage, Trivia and other board games. We are not a teaching group - but we are always happy for people to observe and learn. We would like our group members to take a turn hosting or co-hosting during the year. There is no cost for the activity. Everyone brings a dish to share - usually a hearty appetizer or dessert. The Newcomers monthly newsletter gives the information on who to RSVP to each month.

Golf

We are a small group of sociable ladies who come together on Wednesday mornings to play 9 or 18 holes on a par 3 course — Legacy Golf Course at Windy Hill. We do not compete against each other but rather we each compete against the course using our weekly outings as an opportunity to practice — get help from our friends and enjoy the fresh air and exercise. We do not provide lessons ourselves — you do need to already have the basics - but the more accomplished of our number are always happy to encourage and assist those who are newer to the game. It is an ideal group in which to develop or simply maintain your basic skills in an easy-going environment.  We often have a café lunch afterward if time allows.

Ladies Night Out

Ladies Night Out meets on the last Wednesday of the month at 5:00 p.m. at different restaurants around Cobb County and Sandy Springs. This is a group of about 12 to 18 people. It gives you the opportunity to meet people and to try the restaurants around town.

Mah Jongg

We always meet twice monthly—always the 2nd & 4th Mondays of the month.  Mah Jongg is an ancient Chinese game that is played with tiles. It is one of the fastest growing games in our country! If you understand rummy & enjoy cards & other board games, then you will enjoy this mentally-challenging game! We accept players of all abilities and are happy to teach. Our focus is more on bringing friends together to have fun while playing well and less on being highly competitive. There is no cost involved to the player. The only requirement is for each woman to own a copy of the "card" prepared by the National Mah Jongg League that explains the rules of the game & illustrates the standard hands permitted during play. We will assist each new player to purchase her "card" for $9.00 (good for one full year of play).

Mexican Train Dominoes

Mexican Train Dominoes meets the 4th Thursday of every month at a different member's house. It's an easy game to learn and promotes social interaction enjoyed by all. There's always room for new members and there is no additional cost for participation. Coffee is provided by the hostess and the participants bring their own lunch, snacks & other beverages. We break halfway through the numbers for lunch. As always, we welcome you if you can join us for only half the day.

Out to Lunch

Out to Lunch meets the first Thursday of the month from September through June. Our lunchtime is at 11:30 a.m. Restaurants are chosen by the activity chairs. Restaurants are usually in Cobb County but we do venture out to other areas from time to time. You are notified of the restaurant selection in the Newsletter. The activity chair will always be available to answer questions or help you in any way.

Sit & Stitch

We meet the first Tuesday of every month from 1 pm to 3 pm.  We are a small group that likes to do all types of needlework, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, sewing, etc.  We are willing to teach.  We welcome new members!

Walk & Talk - The East Cobb —Wacky Wednesday Walkers!

We have been walking every Wednesday morning since the spring of 2011. Currently, we meet at 9:30 am at the National Park at the end of Columns Dr. in Marietta for our hour’s walk which is about 3 miles round trip under the trees and along the lovely Chattahoochee River. Weather permitting we sit afterwards with folding chairs in a shady spot to enjoy refreshments and continue our conversations. We have all levels of walking abilities. Come give us a try! We have great comradery and get our much needed exercise at the same time. What a great combination!

Walk & Talk - Smyrna Walking Group

The Smyrna Walking Group meets every Friday at 8:30 am at the Mavel Rd entrance at the beginning of the Silver Comet Trail in Smyrna. Some walk 3.8 miles; others walk 2 miles. We are always happy to have new walkers join us. Please RSVP since our plans sometimes change, and contact us with any questions.

Wine Tyme Social

This is a well-attended event held on the first Saturday of each month in a member's home or neighborhood clubhouse. Couples and singles are all welcome.  Please bring one bottle of wine and a hearty appetizer. A co-hostess is recommended. The hostess and co-hostess will supply coffee and dessert.
